Pharmacy Technician PRN

Department: 740 - Pharmacy
Location: Phenix City, AL

Shift: Wednesdays & Fridays 8:00AM - 6:00PM ET; potentially some weekends

Position Goal

Work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to fill medication orders, deliver orders and to perform other pharmacy service duties as required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment
  • Fills physician orders, medication kits or trays, medication carts, Pyxis machines, or stock requisitions accurately
  • Replenishes medication in emergency crash carts and floor stock areas accurately and efficiently
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile products (including total parenteral nutrition) accurately
  • Completes IV sterile compounding certification every 6 months per USP <797> standards
  • Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
  • Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, and unpacking, and storing of pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations
  • Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration
  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs from all areas of the hospital
  • Restocks medication and IV within dispensing areas
  • Pre-packs bulk medications in unit-dose packages
  • Picks up orders and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds and as requested by pharmacy and nursing staff
  • Enters charges and credits for patient medications within 72 hours
  • Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required daily
  • Answers the telephone identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel
  • Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care areas when needed.
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments
  • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documents in appropriate locations or enters electronic information into appropriate system
  • Track invoices and delivers invoices to accounting or materials management
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.
  • Participates in departmental and facility quality improvement activities when requested
  • Completes and documents all assigned medication storage area inspections monthly.
  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs
  • Collects data, conducts quality monitors, and completes documentation as assigned
  • Attends required departmental and facility in-services
  • Keep medication refrigerator temperature logs and IV room cleaning logs up to date daily

Experience: One (1) year pharmacy technician experience preferred

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. College courses desirable, but not required.

Special Qualifications: Current technician registration with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy required. BLS required. Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
